You'll find that Philly is a really pleasant and friendly city, and different lifestyles don't bother anybody. As someone said, there are always going to be situations that are upsetting, but for the most part everybody does their own thing without any problems.

Philly is very LGBT friendly. I'm gay and have lived here for nearly 20 years and have never had a problem. Will you hear those types of things occasionally? Of course, everywhere has idiots. But for the most part, it's live and let live.
Check out the William Way Center for info on the Philly LGBT community.

Also, Philadelphia has a large gay neighborhood in Center City. Officially known as Washington Square West, it's more popularly known as the Gayborhood.

Well, I'm not gay. However I have been here my whole life and I have never seen any significant anti-gay bigotry. In fact, at least in the media, being gay in Philadelphia has a certain "Philadelphia Chic" about it. there are lots of well known gay folks in the City. Even some of us (like me), who don't really approve of the gay lifestyle, are very tolerant around here. Most Philadelphians say "Live and let live" But Philly is big sophisticated City (with a big metropolitan area). You won't fare as well outside of the Philadelphia metropolitan area.
