These would be cash tolls. EZ Pass would be a little less.

If you get on the NJ Turnpike at Exit 4 and go to the end, it is $7.35. You pay $8.00 going into NYC over the George Washington Bridge. You pay another $1.50 going on I-95 through New York. In Connecticut take I-91 north to I-84 east, there are no tolls in Connecticut. Once in Massachusetts, get on the Mass Pike going east, toll is $4.15 to Copley Square in Boston. Grand total heading north is $21.00.

Coming back, you'll have the $4.15 on the Mass Pike. You have no toll on I-95 or the George Washington coming southbound. $7.35 on the NJ Turnpike. And finally $4.00 crossing the bridge back to Philly. Grand total heading south is $15.50.

It depends on the route you take, of course. Figure on $60 if you go via the Jersey turnpike and through NYC.

It costs less if you go up 476 and catch 84 into Jersey, which takes you into NY without going into the city.

And by the way, don't believe Mapquest when it says it only takes 5 1/2 hours. That's withough stopping at all, without slowing for traffic congestion and roadwork, etc. Figure on 6 - 8 hours of travel time.
